Marietta Roofers: Roof Replacement Time Frame
Our Marietta roofers can tear off and replace asphalt shingle roofs in as little as ONE day.
If it is a sunny, hot summer day, then a roofing crew of five or six people can tear off and replace a 40 square asphalt shingle roof in one day. If temperatures are milder, they could handle up to 50 squares in a day. Square is a roofing term meaning shingles. One square is the equivalent of 100 sq. ft. of shingles. Based on these estimates, we assume the roof is not steep or complex in design.
However, many factors can affect this time frame. Several primary factors are considered when determining the roof replacement duration and some unpredictable elements such as weather conditions and structural damage.
In any case, the weather can delay a job for as long as it desires, and structural repairs can extend it anywhere from 30 minutes to a full day.
However, let us assume that we have favorable weather for a reasonable time frame and there is no structural damage to the roof.
Factor #1 - Type of Roofing Material
There is no way to give you an accurate time frame for your specific type of roof installation since other factors such as roof style, pitch, size, and weather will vary. We instead rated the different roofing types based on how easy or difficult they are to install and gave you a ballpark estimate based on the average install times under ideal conditions on a typical roof.
- Asphalt Shingles: Easy, 1-2 days.
- Metal: Moderate, 2-5 days
- Wood Shake: moderate, 2-5 days
- Membrane: moderately complex, 5-9 days
- Tile: difficult, 5-14 days
You can then factor in these other factors to get a sense of how long the job would take.
Factor #2: Roof Size
By using that 40 square roof example from the beginning of this article, we may either scale the project time up or down. The larger the roof is, the longer the install will take.
Our average roof size is 50 squares, so Stable Roofs Marietta roofers have installed thousands of residential roofs throughout Georgia. If the weather is nice, we could complete each job in a day or two.
Factor #3: Roof Complexity
There is such a diverse range of roof shapes and sizes that can complicate installation. A shallow pitch roof (the slope of the roof) is more accessible for crews to move around on, which accelerates things, while a steep pitch roof makes movement very dangerous, causing delays.
In addition to the pitch, there is the design. Some roofs are easy to install, such as Open Gable or Hip Roofs. On the other hand, there are those intricate roofs with valleys and dormers that can make installation more challenging.
Limiting Factor #1: Weather and Season
All roofing companies serve a single master… the weather. Our Marietta roofers are just as frustrated as you are over prolonged rain. It is in everyone’s interest to get the job done.
The seasons also play an important role in roofing. Often in the summer, roofers are forced to take frequent, necessary breaks due to the heat. The winter months in the south can provide a nice break in the heat, but it can make it nearly impossible to install a roof up north.
Limiting Factor #2: Damaged Structure
Often the damage to your roof isn’t visible until ripping off your old roof system. The solution to this problem can be as simple as replacing one piece of plywood, or it can be as complex as removing the deck and rebuilding the entire structure underneath.
